Gochisousamadeshita no ato /ごちそうさまでしたのあと

October 2013
Gochisousamadeshita no ato*/ごちそうさまでしたのあと。
Mitake gakkou festival
Yamanashi
Japan

A workshop where participants imprinted porcelain chopstick rests with handprints.

*The process of pressing hands together whilst saying 'gochisousamadeshita' traditionally, in Japan, marks the gratitude for food and hospitality after eating.

Participants in this workshop clasped their hands around pieces of porcelain and printed the lines of their palms into the clay, storing the process of gratitude. This coincided with a festival organised in celebration of the local community.
